Andrey Vetrogonsky was born in Leningrad in 1956. He finished Leningrad Secondary Art School. Andrey graduated from Ilya Repin State Academic Institute of Fine Arts under the direction of his father V.A.Vetrogonsky, a well-known graphic artist and a People`s Artist of the Russian Federation. Andrey has been a full-time member of the Union of Artists since 1981.

Since 1976 Vetrogonsky has participated in more than 100 exhibitions. He held solo expos in St. Petersburg (1989, 1994, 2001, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), Murmansk (2001, 2008), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (2009), Nizhny Novgorod (2011) and in France (Clermont-Ferrand, 1990).

Andrey`s classical education is tempered with the traditions of St. Petersburg avant-garde he has adopted. Vetrogonsky prefers to paint in a very open and generalized manner, however you can still feel the reasonableness of every element of the composition and every stroke of the paint-brush. Andrey has succeeded in many genres: cityscape, still life, portraits. Vetrogonsky is best known for his sketches of St. Petersburg landscapes, where Andrey has combined the classical beauty of this city with the contemporary dynamic rhythms.
